Summary

As TEDxToronto anticipates no event occurring in 2023, the primary function of ticket sales will not be central to the website experience. The product team is shifting efforts to optimization in 2023 (currently in progress)

Challenge

The website's user flow shifting towards past content and other product offerings has created an inconsistent experience due to divergent styles and themes. How might we develop a cohesive design solution that integrates diverse themes & styles of past and future events, while maintaining a consistent feel that aligns with TEDxToronto's brand identity?

Insight

No design system equals a disconnected user experience. This is in the form of inconsistencies between components, pages and visual assets. We needed to fully commit to building a process that would improve the long-term survival of a design system as it grows to support future event themes.

Idea

Create documentation that outlines principals on how to best use elements. Provide guidelines on how to create new styles for future event themes. Provide multiple frameworks to stakeholders that offer different levels of customization enabling a wide range of applications at different effort levels.

Process

To access the complete design process, check out the report below. For an optimal viewing experience, click the "Full Screen" option in the bottom right corner to view each slide in full.

Payoff

The design system served as a guide for all stakeholders and contributors, providing a shared language and understanding of the design vision and goals. This will help to streamline the design process, improve collaboration and reduce the amount of time and resources required to execute the desired design.
